3. MAPPING ISSUES

3.1 What follows is necessarily a summary of comments made by members. These have been collated in job family order but there are a number who feel that they have been allocated to the wrong family.

index

3.2 ADMIN FAMILY

3.2.1 Librarians - while the "Guide" indicated that chartered librarian is a typical job falling within the Practitioner Family, there are librarian posts which are mapped as in the Admin Family. It is the view that all librarians (chartered) should be mapped as Practitioner K.

3.2.2 Network Librarians - generally mapped as practitioner K but one, doing the same job and working to the same job description is mapped at Admin J. Same jobs should give same score and same pay.

3.2.3 PAs - it had been the understanding of our members within this group that all PAs, whether working to Directors, Area Managers or Heads of Service are doing similar or equivalent work, would all be placed on the same pay rate. Senior Managers had even said as much to their own PAs. There can be no justification for Heads of Service PA's being on Admin G with Directors and Area Managers on H. All should be on H.

3.2.4 Fraud Officers - these posts are mapped at Admin I while the postholders feel this significantly undervalues the nature of their job especially with its legislative and enforcement element. Should be Practitioner K.

3.2.5 Registrars are all mapped to Admin G. At present they are on a spread of grades covering AP II to AP IV. It is felt that there are a range of different levels of responsibility across the locations and that a uniform G does not reflect this. The description at G is no way describes their role!! - Admin H minimum.

3.2.6 Admin Assistants (Secondary Schools) mapped at Admin G. They compare the position of some technicians in schools mapped at Technical H. They cite the responsibility and supervision placed on them and have studied the job roles within the Family they feel that Admin H is more akin to what they do.

3.2.7 Senior Admin (District Court) - mapped at F - feels that G is more appropriate to the actual job role.

3.2.8 Admin Assistant (Education/Recreation) - postholder feels the job done is that set out in Admin H but has been mapped at G.

3.2.9 Development Worker - Childcare Partnership - this job is probably not typical of any other in the Council. It is mapped at Admin H but the job and role possibly fit better in the Care Family at Care I.

3.2.10 Administrative Assistant (Museums) - the post is mapped at Admin F but the postholder feels that the job role at H is more appropriate to her work. No one in this part of the Service was interviewed for job evaluation.

3.2.11 Clerical Assistant/WPO, Social Work - jobs mapped at Admin D but postholders feel that high responsibility and doing Care First care plans would justify a higher level and recognise that others also mapped at D do not have this. Should be E at least.

3.2.12 Clerical Assistant, Peterhead Family Centre - additional work over recent years has added to the responsibility of this post. Postholder requested regrading 3 years ago. This is a singleton post and should merit at lease Admin E.

3.2.13 Assistant Housing Officer (Environment) - this post supervises 4 others, each in different areas. While this is mapped as Admin F there is a strong view that this role better sits in the Technician Family with a mapping of G.

3.2.14 Senior Clerical Assistant (Schools) - mapping at E does not fully cover the role of this post, tasks and responsibilities sit more in F and possible G
