Pensions Campaign
UNISON
has campaigned hard to protect Local Government Pensions since members
came out in their thousands on a day of action in March 2006. In
2006, Aberdeenshire branch ran a consultation with all members on
the new negotiating position. Since then there has been a great
deal of negotiating at Scottish level to design and agree a new
Local Government Pensions Scheme (LGPS) which protects the pension
interests of all UNISON members in Scotland.
UNISON members voted overwhelmingly to accept the new LGPS in
2008. However with a Tory LibDem Government in power,
our pensions have been under threat again. Legislation at UK level has been applied to scotland ending our final salary pension scheme.
However, in Scotland our negotiators have managed to negotiate a decent Career Average (CARE) scheme. See the links on the right to follow the progress.
