Branch welcomes refugees and calls on members to support them

Refugees fleeing warThe branch has joined UNISON Scotland and many other trade union and civic groups and has pledged to support the refugees fleeing from war and oppression in Syria and other war torn countries.

The branch also encourages all our member to do what you can to support the local group, Aberdeen Solidarity with Refugees, which has been collecting donations of clothes, bedding and other essentials to take to Calais.

UNISON Scotland has also pledged support to refugees and has welcomed the Scottish Government's commitment to do more on a cross party basis.

Refugees welcomeKate Ramsden, Branch Chair said, "This came after the very distressing images from the past few weeks of desperate people fleeing for their lives as this Tory Government looks on, uncaring.

"We want to do what we can to support people who have had no choice but to flee their country to save their lives and the lives of their children, and who have endured unimagineable hardship, only for many of them to be met by walls and fences.

"We know that our members will want us to do what they can to support these refugees and will also help out in any way they can too.

"Councils around the country have also pledged to take in refugees and if Aberdeenshire Council joins them we will support in any way that we can."
